NAR L2 Rocket
In the summer of 2022, I tested for and received my NAR Level 2 High Power Rocketry Certification at Friends of Amateur Rocketry (FAR) in Mojave, California. This is the rocket that flew.
About Not_A_Missile
Not a Missile is not strictly a missile, despite its aggressive appearance (for legal reasons, ITAR, this is a joke). The rocket flies on a J-270 solid rocket motor. With a wound fiberglass 5:1 Von Karman nosecone, a kraft phenolic body tube, and a heavy epoxy fillets on the fin can, Not a Missile is designed to be recovered, iterated on, and set back on the launch pad without sustaining critical damage.
The airframe and nose cone were purchased online, but all other components are made in house. In the motor mount area, there is a 38mm kraft paper motor tube retained by three laser-cut, 1/4" birch rings, secured into place with copious amounts of epoxy.
